Council policies

The Aboriginal Statement of Commitment outlines Council’s acknowledgement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The policy creates an overarching link to Tweed Shire Council’s Community Strategic Plan and the connections with key plans.

The objective of this Policy is to outline Council's commitment to the principles of universal access and social inclusion. The Policy ensures that Council planning and decision making is guided by appropriate standards and guidelines and that Council fulfils responsibilities under state and federal legislation.

The objective of this policy is to describe Council’s principles regarding public access to information and to facilitate the processing of requests for such access. This policy is to be read in conjunction with the Access to Information Guidelines.

To ensure that there is a comprehensive rural and urban addressing system within the Tweed Shire area which provides users with an easy-to-use reference source that contains information on all aspects of addressing.

Provision of clear and unambiguous addressing information to Council, land owners and visitors to assist them in the location of properties within the Tweed local government area.

This policy is also provided to assist with the compliance of regulations for plan lodgement at NSW Land Registry Services (LRS) which states that deposited plans (including Community Plans) must show the street address where available for each new lot in a plan under clause 60 of the Surveying and Spatial Information Regulation 2017.

In accordance with Australian Standard 4819:2011 - Rural and Urban addressing, Council is the addressing authority or agency responsible for assigning addresses.

In accordance with the Roads Act 1993 (NSW) section 162(1) - "A Roads Authority may name and number all public roads for which it is the roads authority".

The objective of this policy is to improve public safety and community amenity across the Tweed Shire. This is achieved by establishing Alcohol-Free Zones (AFZs) in designated public areas to manage alcohol consumption and prevent irresponsible street drinking. The policy serves as a proactive measure to reduce disorderly behaviour, littering, and property damage, ensuring public roads, footpaths, and car parks remain safe and accessible for everyone.

This policy was formulated to be consistent with Council’s legislative obligations and within the scope of Council’s powers. This policy should be read in conjunction with relevant legislation, guidelines and codes of practice. In the case of any discrepancies, the most recent legislation should prevail.

This policy is based upon the Model Asbestos Policy for NSW Councils developed by the Heads of Asbestos Coordination Authorities to promote a consistent Local Government approach to asbestos management across NSW.

This Policy sets the broad framework for undertaking asset management in a structured and coordinated way that aligns with the Community Strategic Plan.

It outlines why and how asset management will be undertaken and defines the key underpinning principles in developing the Asset Management Strategy.

The objective of this Asset Management Strategy (AMS) is to develop a structured set of strategic actions aimed at enabling Council to improve its asset management practices to support Council's Asset Management Policy and service delivery needs.

It is an important element of the Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework that guides the strategic process for local government in NSW.

This Policy will explain how Council will address requests associated with development applications for the use of Council owned or managed land for the purpose of meeting the Asset Protection Zone requirements of a proposed development.

The objective of council’s audit, risk and improvement committee is to provide independent assurance to council by monitoring, reviewing and providing advice about the council’s governance processes, compliance, risk management and control frameworks, external accountability obligations and overall performance.
