Final countdown: Council elections on this Saturday  

28 polling venues across the Tweed, pre-polling now open

Tweed residents will cast their votes in the Council election this Saturday 14 September. 

Tweed residents will head to the polls on Saturday 14 September to elect a new Council.

The NSW Electoral Commission conducts the election on behalf of councils across the State, with voting compulsory in Local Government elections.

Polling stations will open at 8 am on election day and close at 6 pm that night. A total of 28 polling venues will be open on election day:

  • Banora Point High School, 2 Eucalyptus Drive, Banora Point

  • Banora Point Public School, 97 Pioneer Parade, Banora Point

  • St Joseph’s College, Doyle Drive, Banora Point

  • Bilambil Public School, Bilambil Road, Bilambil

  • Burringbar School of Arts Hall, 1 Old Pacific Hwy, Burringbar

  • Casuarina Beach Hockey Club, 1 Barclay Drive, Casuarina

  • Chillingham Public Hall, 3 Satinwood Place, Chillingham

  • Crabbes Creek Public School, 22 Crabbes Creek Road, Crabbes Creek

  • Crystal Creek Public School, 321 Numinbah Road, Crystal Creek

  • Cudgen Public School, Collier Street, Cudgen

  • Dungay Public School, 305 Tomewin Road, Dungay

  • North Star Holiday Resort, 1 Tweed Coast Road, Hastings Point

  • Kingscliff Community Hall, 81 Marine Parade, Kingscliff

  • Kingscliff TAFE, 806 Cudgen Road, Kingscliff

  • Murwillumbah Civic and Cultural Centre, 10-14 Tumbulgum Road, Murwillumbah

  • Murwillumbah Public School, Riverview Street, Murwillumbah

  • Pottsville Beach Community Hall, 1 Tweed Coast Road, Pottsville Beach

  • St Joseph’s Primary School South Murwillumbah, 3 Greville Street, South Murwillumbah

  • Stokers Siding Public School, Stokers Road, Stokers Siding

  • Terranora Public School, Terranora Road, Terranora

  • Tumbulgum Hall, 168 Riverside Drive, Tumbulgum

  • Tweed Heads Civic and Cultural Centre, Brett Street, Tweed Heads

  • Tweed Heads South Community Centre, 18 Heffron Street, Tweed Heads South

  • Tweed Heads South Public School, 10 Heffron Street, Tweed Heads South

  • NSW Electoral Commission Returning Office: Seagulls Club, 68 Gollan Drive, Tweed Heads West

  • Tyalgum Public School, Carraboi Terrace, Tyalgum

  • Uki Public School, 1463 Kyogle Road, Uki.

Pre-polling is also available to eligible voters this election, with 5 pre-polling venues already open across the Tweed from 9 am to 5 pm until Friday 13 September.

Applications for postal voting closed on Monday 9 September. Applications received after this time will not receive a postal vote pack. Completed postal votes must be received by the NSW Electoral Commission by 6 pm on Friday 27 September.

A total of 45 candidates have registered to contest the Tweed Shire Council election, following finalisation of the ballot sheet by the NSW Electoral Commission in early August. The candidates make up 10 grouped tickets, with 7 candidates running on their own as individuals. For details on the candidates, visit the NSW Electoral Commission webpage.

The declaration of the poll is expected to occur between 1 and 3 October 2024, and an Extraordinary Meeting of the new Council will take place on Tuesday 10 October 2024 that will include the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
