New strategy for public toilets in the Tweed being developed

Toilet in Knox Park

Council is seeking community feedback on public toilets in the Tweed. The accessible public toilet block located in Knox Park, Murwillumbah.

Community views will guide the future planning, development and management of public toilets in the Tweed for the next 10 years.

A new shire-wide strategy will ensure Council is providing public toilets which are well-maintained, safe, conveniently located and accessible for people living with disability.

Council is now asking the community to set priorities to improve the quality, siting and distribution of public toilets across the Tweed.

Manager Parks and Active Communities Stewart Brawley said Council is partnering with residents and businesses to develop the Public Toilet Strategy – a key deliverable from the Tweed’s Open Space Strategy 2019–2029.

“We want residents to complete the project survey so we develop a Public Toilet Strategy that meets the needs of the community, now and into the future,” Mr Brawley said.

“We have already completed some work to understand how many extra public toilets we might need as the Tweed’s population grows, alongside an accessibility audit to inform priorities. I’m sure there’s lots of views out there on this subject, so now it’s the turn of the community to share their ideas and priorities.”

Residents can provide feedback in two ways: complete the online survey or drop a pin on an interactive map to show where they would like to see public toilets built, upgraded or removed.

By completing the survey, respondents will go into a draw to win one of 10 picnic hampers from Brett Street CAFE in Tweed Heads valued at $150 each. The survey closes on Sunday 1 August.
