Waste services update - Tropical Cyclone Alfred

Severe weather from Tropical Cyclone Alfred has impacted Council’s tip and waste services, resulting in temporary changes.

Below is an update on the current services as at 5pm Wednesday 5 March.

Tip closure

  • Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre (the tip) and the JUNKtion Tipshop will be closed on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 March 2025.
  •  Council will re-assess the safety of and access to the site on Friday afternoon and will advise the community when the tip will re-open.
  • Residents are asked to safely store waste at home until the tip reopens.
  • Council is waiting on formal advice from the EPA to see if storm waste disposal will be free once the tip re-opens.

Bin collection cancellations
  • Bin collection services for Thursday 6 March and Friday 7 March have been cancelled.
  • Information on rescheduled collections will be provided as soon as it becomes available. 
  • Please check the Services and facilities | Tweed Emergency Dashboard for the latest updates.
  • Remember to secure your bins to prevent them from tipping over, blowing away or becoming debris. Bins can be tied to a fence or sturdy structure using straps or ropes.

Hard rubbish collection cancellations

  • On-call kerbside clean-ups scheduled for Thursday 6 March and Friday 7 March have been cancelled.
  •  Council’s contractor will contact residents with bookings on these days to reschedule for a later date.
