Unmarked and refurbishment of existing graves
All memorialisation of burial and ash interment sites can only be undertaken by the Right of Interment Holder, that is the person with the legal authority of the site.
A Right of Interment Holder is the person who holds the interment right (or licence) to an allotment within a cemetery. As the legal holder of the site, the Right of Interment Holder is the only one who has legal authority as to what can and cannot happen with an interment site regarding burials, ash interments and memorialisation.
Refurbishment of existing grave or ash interment sites
All refurbishments are the responsibility of the Right of Interment Holder. In the event the Right of Interment Holder has died, this right will automatically transfer to the executor of their Will.
In the event the Right of Interment Holder is wanting to nominate another person to undertake the refurbishment a Statutory Declaration and copy of a drivers licence of the temporary Right of Interment Holder certified by a Justice of the Peace will be required.
The Statutory Declaration will need to state that as the Right of Interment Holder they give permission to this person to arrange for the interment only or memorial only for this instance. The Right of Interment Holder still has full authority, however they have granted permission to another person to make arrangements on their behalf. This permission is limited and only valid for that instance.
The name, current contact details of address, phone and email of the new Right of Interment Holder must be provided.
All Statutory Declarations and attachments are to be linked to the application for record keeping purposes. Please contact the Cemeteries team for more information.
Process to follow
Once the Right of Interment Holder has been established and (if required) a certified Statutory Declaration has been received, an application for the memorialisation or refurbishment will be generated. This application is required to be completed and returned to the cemeteries office before any quotes can be requested.
The quote for refurbishment and draft proof to memorialise an unmarked site will then be sent to you for approval. On approval, an invoice will be sent with the memorial/refurbishment being ordered on receipt of the invoice.
All refurbishments and new memorials will include an administration fee, mounting and placement fee and where applicable, a site access works fee.
