Email Link   On Call Household Clean Up

Phone (02) 6670 2400 or book online.

Households with a domestic wheelie bin collection service qualify for two (2) collections (per financial year) of larger items, which do not fit into the red lid landfill bin. The new On-Call Household Clean up (pre- booking) service is the first step in providing more control over items going to landfill and towards increased recycling.

This on-call service replaces the scheduled biannual household clean up collection. This service is not provided for vacant allotment clearing, commercial (eg caravan parks and mobile homes), trade waste, or general farm clean-ups.

If a collection period for an area is booked out, another period for that location will be available in 2-4 weeks.

Residents of multi-unit developments need to organise collections through Strata Managers/Body Corps.

On-call household cleanup waste items - Maximum 2 cubic metres
Households who receive a red wheelie bin collection service will have access to: 2 On-Call Household Clean Up collections per financial year (both collections can be used at once if eligible and notified at booking). Do not place items on your nature strip without booking as this will be deemed illegal dumping.
Do not place items out earlier as this may encourage others to illegally dump items on your pile, making it non-compliant.
You can have up to 2 cubic metres of materials collected twice a year (both collections can be used at once if eligible and notified at booking). Only place items out 1 day before your booked collection date. Items that need to be degassed will be tagged and picked up separately (ie fridges). Excess rubbish will not be collected and removal will be the responsibility of the householder.

Prior to Booking your On-Call Household Clean Up Collection

  • Make use of Additional Recycling Options
  • Donate items to friends, family or a local charity
  • Refer to our list at the bottom of the page of shops/services to contact for possible pick up of large sellable items/furniture in good condition
  • Hold a garage sale during the year or wait for our Tweed wide Second Hand Saturday Event held around September each year

Frequently Asked Questions

How will the On-Call Household Clean Up Collection Service prevent illegal dumping?
Households will be advised of the exact date their bulk waste items will be removed by the collection contractors and residents will be asked to place their items on the kerbside the day before. This will mean that waste items will only be on the kerbside for less than 24 hours. In addition, on any given day, only a very limited number of households throughout the collection area will have items out for disposal. For both these reasons, there will be much less opportunity for other people to add materials.
As seen in other Councils, an on-call service is expected to substantially reduce illegal dumping. It will be much less visible to neighbours and other people, improving visual amenity in Tweed neighbourhoods and providing less of a trigger for illegal dumping.
I live in a Caravan Park or Mobile Home Village, do we get the Household Cleanup Collection?
No. Caravan parks and mobile home villages are not residentially-rated (they are commercially rated) and therefore do not pay the charge that covers the Household Cleanup Collection.
Some businesses / caravan parks or mobile home villages may wish to organise a private collection directly with a local waste provider.
Once I’ve booked the On-Call Household Clean Up Collection Service, will I receive a reminder when my items are due to be collected?
Once booked, a confirmation number will be provided to the resident and a reminder will be given at least two (2) business days before the collection date. Residents will be able to choose how they receive the reminder.
When should I get my waste out for my on call household clean up collection?
Refer to the collection date that was scheduled for you after booking. If you didn’t receive one, please call 02 6670 2400. Your waste needs to be out no earlier than the day before your schedule date. The collection truck can come through anytime on your scheduled day.
How will the On-Call Household Clean Up Collection Service reduce the amount of waste going to landfill? How will it increase levels of recycling?
Residents making a booking for the on-call service will be asked to identify the type of items they are putting out for collection. The booking process will identify specific materials that are suitable for recycling and items that are suitable for the bulk waste collection. This will assist to reduce recyclable items that are regularly left out for the kerbside collection from unnecessarily going to landfill as well as reducing the cost of the current service.
The on-call service will also allow residents time throughout the year to donate clean, unwanted household items and clothing in good condition to charities.
Many public complaints about the current kerbside collection relate to the length of time waste remains on the roadside. Waste service contractors providing the current kerbside collection are under time pressure to complete the collection quickly to adhere as closely as possible to the schedule.
Other Councils that have implemented an on-call service have experienced a decrease in the amount of waste going to landfill and an increase in recycling.
