FABS (Fun Activities Banora Seniors) recently held a huge art and craft exhibition as part of Tweed Seniors Festival. The event took place over 2 incredible days, Friday 10 and Saturday 11 February.

The exhibition, the fifth of its kind, took place at FABS home ground, the Banora Point Community Centre. It featured works from a full gamut of FABS creative groups including the Art Group who was the driving force behind this year’s event.

The event was officially opened by Susi Muddiman OAM, Director of Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre who commended the creative spirit of the FABS community. Also in attendance was Meredith Denis OAM, Tweed Deputy Mayor who spoke of the importance of community organisation Wedgetail Retreat.

On display over the 2 days were a range of different artistic styles and mediums, from watercolour and acrylic to pencil and ink, including intricate and colourful work from the Mosaic Group. Artistic works covered a variety of subject matter, including abstract works, flora, and fauna, and even pet portraiture.

Craftwork on display included pieces from the Scrapbooking and Card Making Groups - and the Needlework and Crochet Groups who use a range of different needlecrafts such as embroidery, cross stitch, crochet, knitting and quilting. The Family History Group also visually showcased fascinating research into their family lineages.

Artist and FABS member Beverley Davidson won the People’s Choice Award with her beautiful realist work Banksia (pictured with Susi Muddiman). Also run as part of the festivities was a successful charity raffle that raised over $500 for Wedgetail Retreat.

This event came from humble beginnings and is now one of the biggest on the FABS calendar. The last exhibition took place in 2019 before COVID-19, so this year was particularly special.

The 2 days gave insight into the incredible talents among the exhibiting artists and craftspeople that are part of the vibrant FABS network. It also celebrated the contribution seniors make to our community, as well as the importance of social connection no matter your age.
