No wipes in our pipes
Only flush the 3 Ps – poo, pee and (toilet) paper
Flushing things like wipes, tissues, paper towels, cotton buds and dental floss can block your home plumbing and our wastewater pipes.
Unclogging blockages and repairing damaged pipes can be expensive.
Sewage overflows can harm our natural environment.
Free the pipes!
Keep your household plumbing, The Tweed’s wastewater pipes and our natural environment healthy.
Only flush the 3Ps:
Puke is okay, too.
What not to flush
We placed ‘flushable’ wipes, ‘biodegradable’ wipes, ‘non-flushable’ wipes and tissues into these jars in June 2017. They still haven’t broken down.
- Wipes
- Tissues
- Paper towels
- Cotton buds
- Dental floss
- Nappies
- Sanitary products
- Rubbish
These things belong in a rubbish bin.
In the Tweed we have 3 bins – red, green and yellow lid bins. Use Council’s waste wizard to find out what goes where.
What about the kitchen?
The waste wizard can help you sort out what goes in which bin.
Please never tip oil and grease down the drain. They will eventually turn solid and build up in your pipes.
Place food scraps in your green-lid bin so Council can turn them into top-quality compost.
If you have an insinkerator, it’s time to get rid of it and use a green-lid bin instead.
