Residents are invited to have their say on a review of the draft Community Strategic Plan 2025-2035, as well as other key documents which guide Council and the community into the future.
Mayor of Tweed Chris Cherry said Council wanted to plan with the community to enable sustainable community outcomes now and for future generations.
“The Community Strategic Plan 2025–2035 (CSP) is a roadmap for the decade ahead— shaped by our community, for our community,” Cr Cherry said.
“More than just a plan, it is a commitment to the future we want to create together – which is why we would love to hear from you.”
The CSP is part of the Office of Local Government’s Integrated Planning & Reporting Framework, which all councils in NSW are required to follow. The framework begins with each community’s aspirations for the next 10 years, rather than those of the council.
The Tweed community has said it wants:
- A healthy natural environment
- To be safe at home and in our community with reliable essential services and infrastructure
- The Tweed’s people and places to thrive
- To work together to plan for the future so the Tweed grows and evolves in a sustainable way.
A suite of integrated plans set out a vision and goals and strategic actions to achieve them. There is a reporting structure to communicate progress to Council and the community, as well as a structured timeline for review to ensure the goals and actions are still relevant.
Key documents being reviewed and open for community feedback include:
In 2022, in collaboration with the community and stakeholders, Council developed a new Community Strategic Plan (CSP). Given the short period the 10-year strategy has been in place, and in order to determine progress towards the community vision and aspirations, Council has conducted a review of the existing strategy.
The review has considered further community feedback from the latest ‘Be Our Best Resident survey, conducted in late 2024. This statistically representative, random telephone survey was completed by more than 400 Tweed residents.
Key community priorities have remained consistent over the history of the ‘Be Our Best Resident’ survey. Council, community and key partners contribute to addressing these priorities.
Key areas of focus for the next 10 years include:
- More/better services and facilities
- Maintaining and upgrading the local road network
- Access to more affordable housing
- Managing population growth and over development.
Submissions are open until 4pm Tuesday 20 May 2025.
