The North Coast’s biggest day of garage sales, Second Hand Saturday, returns to the Tweed this Saturday 21 September.
Hosted by North East Waste and Council, the free annual community event will once again see lawns adorned with pre-loved treasures, neighbours getting together for whole street sales and local community groups coordinating car boot or market-style sales.
From cars to camping gear, furniture, antiques and pre-loved children’s treasures, there is something for everyone with more than 300 garage sales registered across the North Coast region, including over 100 sales already registered in the Tweed region.
There are massive joint garage sales, including Burringbar Village Sale, Crabbes Creek Community Hall Stalls and The Pavilions Marketplace in Terranora. There are also fundraisers, moving house sales, down-sizing, decluttering and clean-out garage sales.
Council’s Education Officer Resource Recovery Yvette van Amstel said Second Hand Saturday enabled the community to get together and embrace reuse and repair by keeping perfectly good items in circulation.
“By shopping second hand, we have local access to such a variety and at a fraction of the cost to buying new,” Ms Amstel said.
“With the added benefit of supporting locals and keeping items out of landfill, the positives for our community participating in Second Hand Saturday are huge.”
Shoppers can navigate their way through all that’s on offer by visiting the Second Hand Saturday website or downloading the free app. Both include a full list of garage sales across the region, what’s on offer at each sale, photos and interactive maps that enable you to bookmark your favourites and plan out your day.
