Community groups keen on hosting Australia Day events in the Tweed in 2025 are encouraged to apply for funding before midnight on 11 October.

Community organisations across the Tweed are invited to apply for financial support from Council to host Australia Day events.

This funding is available for small-scale community events held three days either side of Australia Day 2025.

Council’s Acting Manager Corporate Governance Mathew Greenwood said Australia Day events played an important role in fostering community spirit.

“With this funding, we’re enabling groups to celebrate Australia Day in a manner that reflects their unique local character,” Mr Greenwood said.

“Local Australia Day gatherings bring our diverse communities together in a meaningful way and we’re excited to see the events our community groups have in store for everyone.”

The funding provided by Council is based on the expected number of attendees, with three levels of support available:

  • Category 1: $300 for events with up to 149 participants

  • Category 2: $400 for events expecting 150 - 249 participants

  • Category 3: $500 for events with 250 or more participants.

Community organisations applying for the first time will be automatically placed in Category 1.

To qualify for funding, community organisations must:

  • be located in the Tweed region and provide an outline of their planned event

  • be an incorporated body and hold public liability insurance

  • ensure the event is open to the public and not exclusively for members or private businesses.

Successful applicants must also list their event on Council’s calendar of events at whatsontweed.com.au.

Recognition of Council’s support is also required in all promotional efforts and on event day.

Applications will be reviewed by the Tweed Shire Australia Day Awards Selection Panel in late October 2024.

If your event is planned on Council-managed land, such as a park or beach, all necessary permits and approvals must be obtained.

To apply, complete the application form on Council’s Australia Day webpage and submit it by midnight on Friday 11 October 2024.
