Pack a basket, throw down your rug and bring the whole family along for an inspiring day of creative connection, art and community at the Tweed Regional Gallery’s annual picnic gathering later this month.

The popular annual Picnic and Artist Paint Out will be hosted once again in the picturesque grounds of the Gallery, overlooking the magnificent Tweed Valley, on Sunday 18 June, from 2 – 5 pm.

There will be live music, free activities for kids and the opportunity to create art with the stunning views of Wollumbin / Mount Warning as backdrop.

Artists of all levels are invited to bring along their materials to make work en plein air (French for ‘painting outdoors’). Special guest artists Ron McBurnie and Jonathan McBurnie will be working on site and will be on hand to mentor and chat about their work. You can also watch as they create their own work in response to this stunning landscape.

Tweed Regional Museum’s vibrant new initiative Museum on Wheels (MoW) will be popping up on site and will feature en plein air artworks from the Gallery’s collection and guest artists.

This year, the Gallery is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Margaret Olley’s birthday. Olley began her career as a landscapist and loved to work en plein air, once saying: “Home is wherever my wicker basket happens to be… and it is always full of paint.”

Artist Paint Out: Artists of all levels are invited to come along and set up to work en plein air overlooking the stunning Tweed River and Wollumbin. There will be covered and uncovered areas for artists to work outdoors on the western side of the Gallery, with plenty of opportunity to chat to others and spruik their work. Further information for artists is available here.

Bring your own picnic or for your convenience Apex Dining will be serving warming soups, delicious hotbox items and family packs directly from the picnic ground.

Live music will feature Moonboat, a duo comprising vocalist Layla Goundrie and guitarist Kingston Chavez, who are inspired by the sounds of the bossa nova and soul music. They will be followed by Sahar - an Iranian singer-songwriter combining her love of storytelling and poetry with music.

No bookings required.
