Kunghur Hall available soon for public hire

Hall available for bookings from August after pre-school extension

Kunghur Hall

Kunghur Hall will be available for hire by the general public as of 1 August, 2023.

Kunghur Hall will be available for multi-purpose use from the start of August with bookings to be taken from that time.

Bookings have been pushed out until August to provide an extension for the current user, Kunghur Community Preschool, to continue operations until the end of Term 2 of the NSW school term (30 June 2023).

In August 2022, Council asked residents what their preferred use of the space would be. The consensus from this consultation was that outside of preschool days, it should be shared with the wider community.

Based on this outcome, Council approved a decision to make Kunghur Hall available for all members of the community to use on days outside of the current Kunghur Community Preschool use – offering to assist in the preparation of the hall to suit these arrangements.

However, following this decision, Kunghur Community Preschool declined to enter into a shared use agreement and will be vacating the property on 30 June.

Mayor of Tweed Shire Chris Cherry thanked the preschool for their contribution to the community over many years.

“Council would like to thank the Kunghur Community Preschool for their contribution to early childhood education and development in the region for more than 30 years,” Cr Cherry said.

“We recognise the significant benefits this service has provided for Kunghur and surrounding suburbs – they have played an important part in the lives of so many families from the local area and we will miss this valuable service.”

Kunghur Hall will join a wider network of community halls across the Tweed available for hire by the public, which all provide space for a range of programs and classes to help our community thrive.

A detailed report on the outcomes of the Kunghur community consultation, including the resolution of Councillors at their meeting on 15 December 2022, are available at yoursaytweed.com.au/kunghurhall.

Book a community hall in the Tweed Shire at community centres and venue hire. (Please note Kunghur Hall will not be available for booking until 1 August, 2023).
