Nominations open for 2025 Tweed Sustainability Awards

Previous Sustainability Award winners

Previous Sustainability Award winners include Murwillumbah Farmers Markets, Woodland Valley Farm, Fingal Head Coastcare, Stokers Siding Public School, Summerland Bank and Beverley Fairly.

Tweed Shire Council is calling on the community to help celebrate local sustainability champions, with nominations now open for the 2025 Tweed Sustainability Awards.

The biennial Awards recognise individuals, businesses, schools and community groups that are helping to protect and enhance the Tweed Shire’s unique natural environment. From waste reduction to climate action, wildlife conservation and regenerative farming, the awards highlight those who go above and beyond for sustainability.

Council’s Director of Sustainable Communities and Environment, Naomi Searle, encouraged nominations.

“These Awards shine a light on the people and projects leading the way in sustainability,” Ms Searle said.

“Whether you're creating safe habitats for wildlife, improving practices on your farm, reducing waste, or educating others – we want to hear your story. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the inspiring work happening across the Shire.”

A highlight of this year’s awards is the introduction of a new category – Urban Rewilding – which recognises individuals and families who have increased biodiversity, wildlife habitats, or native planting in their own backyard or urban environments.

“This new category acknowledges the important role these actions, which often occur at home, play in creating greener, healthier neighbourhoods for the community and wildlife,” Ms Searle said.

Nominations opened Sunday 8 June and close midnight Sunday 20 July 2025, giving community members 6 weeks to submit entries across a wide range of categories.

Award categories for the 2025 Tweed Sustainability Awards include:

  • Regenerative Agriculture
  • Wildlife & Habitat
  • Tourism & Hospitality
  • Urban Rewilding
  • Young people (25 and under)
  • Adult
  • Schools or education sectors
  • Not-for-profit/community groups
  • Businesses

In addition, the community will also have the chance to vote for their favourite nominee in the People’s Choice Award.

“It’s easy to nominate,” said Ms Searle. “Just head to Council’s website, complete an online form and tell us how you are helping to create a more sustainable Tweed.”

All nominees will be entered into a prize draw donated by Tweed Holidays Parks for the chance to win a two-night cabin stay at any of the THP locations, subject to availability.

Nominations close midnight, Sunday 20 July 2025
