Key stakeholders with relevant experience are invited to assist in developing a Growth Management and Housing Strategy for the Tweed.

Expressions of interest are being sought from key stakeholders with relevant experience to join Council’s new Project Reference Group to help guide the growth and development of housing in the Tweed.

The Project Reference Group (PRG) is intended to provide technical input, impartial information, advice and views to Council that will assist in the development of a Growth Management and Housing Strategy for the Tweed.

Currently, the Tweed is home to just short of 100,000 people but that figure is projected to jump to 132,221 by 2041.

Council’s Director Planning and Regulation Vince Connell said the Tweed was now at a critical juncture in its development and careful planning was essential to make sure we get the balance right.

“As the fastest growing local government area in Northern NSW, it is crucial that housing and employment opportunities are planned in a way that support the local community and economy, while protecting the natural environment and maintaining the scenic qualities that make the Tweed so special,” Mr Connell said.

“Housing and employment are diverse and complex land-use issues and we are looking for suitable people to help Council consider important factors such as supply, affordability, type, location and ease of access to services and facilities.

“Understanding what residents want for the long-term future of the Tweed, from the beginning of the process, will help fit the pieces of the housing puzzle together in a way that best meets the community’s needs and desires.”

Key stakeholders and eligible members of the community are invited to express interest in joining the PRG which will help guide the development of this important strategy.

The PRG will be an impartial body of knowledge and technical expertise to:

  • provide information, advice and views to Council and its consultants concerning development of the Growth Management and Housing Strategy

  • provide a technical review of documentation

  • support the development of best land-use policy and practice

  • help inform Council decision-making.

People with qualifications or experience in relevant government, housing or employment sectors, recognised representatives of relevant communities, or those with a direct and recognised interest in the future of housing and employment opportunities in the Tweed, are invited to apply.

Applications close before 4 pm on Wednesday 10 November 2021.
