Spot Joe Rider competition returns – win prizes
10 October 2025
The Spot Joe Rider competition is back and this year it’s bigger and better, with prizes to be won.
The aim is to give everyone in the Tweed more ways than ever to take part and show their support for motorcycle safety.
The competition runs during Motorcycle Safety Awareness month for 9 days from 18 to 26 October 2025, covering 2 full weekends. During the campaign, residents will be asked to keep an eye out for local motorcyclists wearing the bright yellow ‘I am Joe Rider’ vest. When they see one they can simply jump online at yoursaytweed.com.au/spot-joe-rider and record the time and location of the sighting. Each valid entry goes into the draw for daily $50 ‘Why Leave Town’ vouchers and a grand prize of $250!
Tweed Shire Council’s Road Safety Officer Lily Morgan said the Joe Rider campaign was a simple but powerful way to protect vulnerable road users.
“Even if you don’t spot a Joe Rider vest, motorcyclists are out there every day, often riding with extra care to keep themselves safe around bigger vehicles. If we do the same, it could save a life. Every rider is someone’s friend, partner or parent – share the road, share the responsibility,” Ms Morgan said.
Last year’s campaign proved the impact of visibility and awareness. Nearly 90 people submitted sightings and many locals reported changing their driving habits – checking blind spots more thoroughly, giving extra space when overtaking and being more mindful of motorcyclists. Others said it made them feel more connected to their community and more mindful of their daily driving habits. Those little changes add up and make our roads safer for everyone.
Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users. Between 2018 and 2022, they accounted for more than 47% of all road fatalities in the Tweed, compared with 19% statewide, with speed a factor in half of local motorcycle fatalities. The Joe Rider campaign tackles these statistics head on by putting motorcyclists in the spotlight and encouraging safer driving behaviours across the Tweed.
The competition is open to all Australian residents who live, work or spend time in the Tweed.
