Upgrades:Construction was completed in 2004, at a cost of $4 million. 95% was funded by Council and 5% from the State Government.

Hastings Point WWTP Hastings Point is based on a conventional gravity system with pump stations. Features of the plant are as follows:

  • The inlet works comprise a main channel fitted with a mechanical step screen, screening conveyor and bagging unit, storm overflow chamber, a primary by-pass channel with manually raked bar screen, two grit arrestors and classifier and a flow divider to split the flows downstream of the inlet works
  • Two intermittently decanting extended aeration tanks, each with a design capacity of 9000 equivalent persons
  • Two concrete lined in-ground balance ponds
  • Storm lagoon storage and pump station
  • Chemical dosing facilities and bunded storage area
  • Liquid Chlorine Disinfection facilities
  • Deodorisation bed and blower to extract foul air from Inlet works
  • Effluent Pumping Station
  • Treated Effluent is discharged to an exfiltration zone in the beach dunes east of the plant
  • Two sludge lagoons and two sludge drying beds

  • The treatment process is an activated sludge process
  • The amount of phosphate is reduced by the two stage addition of Alum (Aluminium Sulphate) to the activated sludge and the clarified effluent processes respectively
  • Tertiary filtration of the clarified effluent is carried out via a Disk Type cloth filter
  • Prior to discharge, effluent is disinfected with the addition of liquid chlorine
  • Volume limit for the discharge of liquid waste is 12.96ML/day
  • Pollutant load based licence limits apply to this plant
