Neighbour Day – time to start planning your event – Sunday 31 March

Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community, encouraging people to connect with those who live in their neighbourhood.

Whether through a cuppa, a picnic in the park, or a message of support; Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to say thanks for being a great neighbour and for being there to lend a hand.

Don't know your neighbours yet? We encourage you to hold an event on Neighbour Day. Last year- we had 115 events registered out of 700 nationwide!

Prizes up for grabs! For your chance to win a BBQ and BBQ Cart valued at $500, register your event at Your Say Tweed (external link).

Visit the Neighbour Day (external link) web site to register your event and receive your free Neighbour Day Kit.

Neighbour Day 2019 eCard Planning is easy

Once you receive your Neighbour Day kit you will receive posters, invitations, connection cards, selfie signs and a “how to” guide.

Some of the great events we heard about last year were:
  • Share plate get together – invite your street to a local park and get everyone to bring a plate
  • Easter egg or lolly hunt – get the kids involved and get to know the different families in your street, it doesn’t have to wait until Easter!
  • Vegie patch – do you have a communal space that could be used for a neighbourhood vegie patch?
  • Have a tea party – swap recipes and stories
  • Do a spring clean – organise a street garage sale/swap
  • Like to read? - start a book club or organise a neighbourhood library (you could even get together to build something for the books to be kept
  • Get connected – create a street Facebook group, you could swap jobs or let your neighbours know about an event or if you need their help
Tweed Shire Council is a supporter of Neighbour Day celebrations. It is part of Tweed Shire Council’s commitment to building healthy, safe and more inclusive communities.
