If you are considering building a new home in the Tweed Shire or considering making alterations and additions to your existing home including garages, carports, sheds, swimming pools etc, Section A1 - Residential and Tourist Development Code (external link) provides detailed planning and design control guidelines. Valuable design information is also available in Designing a Home.

The NSW Government Planning & Environment have published ‘Your guide to the DA process (external link) ’ which is a useful site that gives an overview of the process.

An alternative option when designing and seeking approval for a home is the provisions of Exempt and Complying Development. These are somewhat restrictive and require considerable pre-lodgement research, click here for further information.

You are encouraged to take advantage of the combined approval service (application 1 above) where Council Building Surveyors can assess your Construction Certificate at the same time as the development application is being processed. For more information see Building Certification Services.

Council Building Surveyors are accredited professional, well qualified with local knowledge invaluable in ensuring that your interests are protected in an impartial manner.

The following fee calculator link can be used to estimate some of the fees involved and a fee quote can be requested by phone or email Development Fee Calculator (186kB HTM). To avoid delays fees are to be paid promptly and before any application is processed.
