Drought management ensures homes and businesses in the Tweed have continued access to water services during drought events. Council achieves this by enforcing the responsible use of water by residents and businesses during drought or water shortages.

Drought Management is a critical component of Council's Integrated Water Cycle Management (IWCM) Strategy.

Drought Management Strategy

Tweed Shire Council adopted a Drought Management Strategy (2.42mB PDF) in November 2009. It outlines measures such as water restrictions and other procedures to implement during drought.

Developing the strategy involved modelling severe drought conditions to identify the triggers required for shire-wide water restrictions.

The strategy is a requirement under the NSW Office of Water's Best-Practice Management of Water Supply and Sewerage Guidelines.
