Major Projects
The Tweed population is expected to grow by more than 38% over the next twenty years to reach a forecasted population of approximately 126,000 by 2036. There are a number of major residential and commercial projects either planned or under construction to cater for the growth of the Shire and provide employment opportunities.
Residential
Cobaki Lakes | Cobaki Residential Community Development is a proposed new suburb located in the north of the Shire adjacent to the NSW/Queensland border comprising of residential, commercial and community land uses. The new development will provide a range of housing options for up to 12,000 persons and includes a town centre and neighbourhood centre to support a range of retail and commercial development as well as community and education facilities. Kings Forest | Located adjacent to the coast, Kings Forest will provide accommodation for approximately 11,000 persons and comprises a mixed use town centre, two neighbourhood centres, community and education facilities, commercial land as well as a range of housing options. Fraser Cove | Residential subdivision to allow for approximately 272 future dwellings at Tweed Heads South near Terranora Creek. The first stage is expected to be available by the end of 2016. |
Altitude Aspire | Residential subdivision approved at Terranora for 250 lots with the first stage to begin in 2016. |
Seaside City | Located on the Tweed Coast, Seaside City is primarily a medium density housing development with some provision for commercial and tourist land uses. |
Kingscliff Dunes Subdivision | 50 lot residential subdivision located within easy access of beautiful Kingscliff beaches and the village centre. |
Casuarina Town Centre | A mixed use development comprising of medium density residential, retail, commercial and mixed use lots. A retail centre comprising of a supermarket, restaurants and shops has been completed. |
Commercial
Highway Service Centre Chinderah (Northbound) | Commenced early 2016, the service centre is valued at $15 million. |
Tweed City Centre Shopping Centre | Expansion to the value of $155 million is to be completed by early 2017. |
Services
Tweed Heads Hospital | Budget commitment of $48 million for redevelopment of Hospital facilities. |
Tweed-Byron LAC Police Station | Located at Tweed Heads and is valued at $12.4 million. |
Environmental
Kingscliff Foreshore Redevelopment valued at $21.2 million will provide community parklands and protect vital business and other assets along the Kingscliff CBD foreshore.
