City of the Arts Public Art Commission Project
| Commission 1 Camphor Art and Gateway and/or Interpretative Signage Sites: To be identified in line with Community Based Heritage Study findings and local community input. Scope: Artistic and distinctive gateway signage or interpretative signage using timber from the ubiquitous, exotic camphor laurel. Not generally known for its outdoor longevity, this species, declared noxious in surrounding shires, has been the focus of eco-art practices built on experimental cut timber preservative formulas. The project will engage a number of local artists and wood-art craftspeople. Conceptual designs: To be identified via community consultation and selected via competition. Commission 2 NAIDOC Week 2003 ATSI Siteworks Project Indigenous Botanical Garden Site: The Border Caravan Park site in Tweed Heads is a significant site to the local ATSI community, and this project aims to create a contemporary meeting place for the community to enjoy. Scope: Landscaping, bush tucker, medicinal tree planting and interpretative signage created by ATSI artists. |
