Background and Rationale
There are many facets to the Tweed’s cultural diversity; manifestations include
differences in religion, language, lifestyle and artistic and cultural
expression. Council’s Social Plan, Cultural Policy and five-year Cultural Plan
express a firm commitment to nurture an inclusive and harmonious community by
increasing public awareness, recognition and acceptance of difference.
The program therefore comprises an assortment of interrelated, interconnected
and interactive Community Cultural Development Projects, designed to actively:
• enhance recognition of art-form diversity and recognition of artists from all
backgrounds
• honour the proud history of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
community, and
• engage youth and the disability community.
Objective
To recognise, support and promote the rich cultural diversity inherent in the
art and heritage of the Tweed, including our Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander culture and our multicultural community.
