Tweed Shire City of the Arts 2003 - 2005

NSW Premier Bob Carr, via the NSW Ministry for the Arts, has named Tweed Shire as the State's Fifth City of the Arts from 2003 - 2005.
The Fifth City of the Arts Program will provide stimulus to Council's current economic and tourism strategies and will enable the Tweed community to maximise and sustain its burgeoning arts and cultural industry.
The Vision for the Fifth City of the Arts sees the Tweed as "a vibrant and creative arts precinct that provides pleasure and recreation for our community, sustains and encourages local artists, and promotes our artistic wonders to the world".
The two-year cultural program is built on the foundation of the eight strategic elements of Council's Cultural Policy and Cultural Program Plan. Structured on the core element of Local Distinctiveness and Sense of Place, the City of the Arts program will forge the bubbling wellspring of creative energy and artistic imagination that is endemic to our shire.
Designed to nurture and promote Tweed’s unique sense of self, the program contains three sub themes that reflect local identity.

1. Cultural Diversity - This two-year program aims to promote the rich cultural heritage and art form diversity inherent in the Tweed.

2. Place Making and Policy - This two-year program aims to provide a public launch pad for Council's newly adopted Place Making and Public Art Policy.

3. Festivals and Events - This two-year program aims to animate a strategic campaign that will promote and expand the collective appeal of Tweed’s calendar of events.
