Water Efficiency in the Garden
Up to 30% of our household water consumption is used in the garden. Because water is a precious resource it is important to make sure that the water we use in the garden is used as efficiently as possible.
Addressing Council’s irrigation of parks and gardens and water use in household gardens is an important part of Council’s Demand Management Strategy. By mid 2012, Council aims to develop water efficiency guidelines for its outdoor water use as well as a water efficient garden policy for the Shire.
While we are developing these guidelines and policy, the savewater website provides some useful information for water use in gardens, including practical information about plant selection and using water efficiently.
