Water Efficiency for Renters
As of January 31, 2011 changes to the Residential Tenancy Act will encourage landlords to replace old and inefficient showerheads and tapware.
Under the new regulations, the landlord will only be able to pass on the water bill to renters if:
- All showerheads and tapware on the premises have a flow rate of 9 litres per minute or less (3 star WELS rated).
- There are no leaking taps on the premises at commencement of the rental tenancy agreement or when the water efficiency measures are installed, whichever is the latter.
To find out how to measure the flow rates of showerheads and tapware, you can find instructions and view a video on the savewater.com.au website.
