IWCM Strategy 2012 (315kb)

Six Yearly Review of our Integrated Water Cycle Management Strategy

Council's existing IWCM has been regularly updated as actions within the document have been completed. However, Council is required to conduct a comprehensive review of its IWCM every six years, in line with NSW Office of Water (NOW) best practice guidelines, and that major review is due in 2012. External consultants will carry out the review. The review will:

  • Outline the water supply, sewerage and stormwater issues and requirements that are likely to confront Council during the next 30 years.
  • Review and evaluate the large number and wide range of water-related programs, documents and studies already being undertaken in the Shire.
  • Develop scenarios to address the identified issues, by continuing existing initiatives or implementing new actions.
  • Propose actions and strategies to achieve the most appropriate integrated approach.

Given the amount of work carried out to date, the review will not start with a clean slate. Instead, it will analyse the existing foundation, determine any gaps and provide direction on ways to move forward into the future.

Timeframe

  • 30 January – 21 February 2012: Engagement period for community input to consultant’s brief.
  • February - April 2012: Advertise for consultant and engage consultant
  • April 2012: Consultant starts research phase
  • June 2012 (approximately): Consultant to engage community for input
  • November - December 2012: Public exhibition of draft IWCM 2012
  • January 2013: Finalisation of IWCM 2012
  • Early 2013: Council considers finalised IWCM 2012 for adoption and implementation

Have Your Say

Council is looking for community input as an important part of the review, to provide feedback and priorities on the key water issues for the Tweed:

  • Suggesting issues that should be included in the consultant's brief (from 30 January to 21 February 2012)
  • Providing information to the consultant during the research phase (towards the middle of 2012)
  • Giving feedback when the draft IWCM is placed on public exhibition (at the end of 2012).

Members of the community are encouraged to get involved early in the process, to help guide the creation of the draft IWCM 2012. By being involved from the beginning, you can ensure your concerns will be considered.

Copies of the original 2006 strategy and the most recent update (2011) can be viewed from the downloads section on the IWCM 2006 page.

Copies of the draft IWCM 2012 will also be available to view at the Customer Contact Centres and Council’s website during the formal pubic exhibition period at the end of the year (go to On Exhibition on the website home page).

If you would like to be kept informed of water updates and progress you may wish to sign up to our Interested Parties Register.
