Drought Management
Drought Management is another important IWCM component, and is a vital component of water management for Local Water Utilities across Australia. It involves responsible use of the region’s water resources during periods of water shortages, and aims to ensure the reliability of the water supply whilst recognising the needs of the community and protecting access to water as an essential service.
Drought Management Strategy - Tweed Shire Council
A Drought Management Strategy has been developed as part of Council’s Integrated Water Cycle Management Strategy, and to enable Council to meet the requirements of the NSW Department of Water and Energy’s Best-Practice Management of Water Supply and Sewerage Guidelines.
The strategy includes a comprehensive review of existing water restriction triggers and actions, improved modelling of worst drought and climate impacted conditions, discusses contingency options should a drought continue, and considers important aspects of the strategy’s implementation.
Residents are encouraged to have their say on the strategy which is on public exhibition for a period of six (6) weeks until 25 September 2009. Visit our What's On Exhibition page to view items currently on public exhibition.
Submissions can be made in writing concerning the draft strategy to the General Manager, Tweed Shire Council, PO Box 816, Murwillumbah, NSW 2484 by the abovementioned date.
