Waste and Garbage Collection
Council currently provides a weekly split bin garbage/recycling collection service as well as a fortnightly, optional green waste collection service. The green waste service is available to most areas at an additional cost.
From 1 December 2009, the new multi-bin system will come into effect in the Tweed Shire. This new multi-bin system will involve the replacement of all domestic split bins with a separate red lid bin for garbage (140L collected weekly) and a separate yellow lid bin for recycling (240L collected fortnightly).
These new bins will begin to arrive from 13 October, however it is important to note that collection for the new bins will not begin until 1 December. Residents will need to continue to use their split bins until this time. For more information on this new service, please click on the links shown to the right.
Apart from every day household recycling, Tweed residents can also make use of a number of other free recycling options. These include the free metal collection from your property, Drummuster, and recycling of electronic waste (e-waste), household chemicals, and compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) and fluorescent tubes at Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre.
Rather than simply throwing these items away, check out the ‘Additional recycling services’ section of the Tweed’s Multi-bin System brochure to find out how you can help divert these from landfill.
