Council has launched an exciting new program that will work in partnership with high water use businesses in the Tweed Shire to assist them to adopt more efficient water use practices. The program is called Tweed's Top 20.

Council has identified the 20 non-residential water users who consume the most town water. These businesses will be invited to participate in the Tweed’s Top 20 program which aims to help these organisations reduce their water use.

The Tweed’s Top 20 program is one of the key initiatives of Council's Demand Management Strategy.

Businesses who wish to start a water saving project through the Tweed’s Top 20 program will receive a free water assessment, support, promotion opportunities and financial assistance of up to $5,000.

The partnerships will have many potential benefits for participating businesses including saving money, water, energy and the environment.

By adopting a few simple changes to cut water use, businesses will automatically reduce their water, sewer, liquid trade waste and power bills and help protect our environment and our way of life.

Council's Demand Management Strategy shows that the top 20 high water using businesses have traditionally consumed a combined total of 590 megalitres each year- that's 236 Olympic swimming pools each year. It's all about using water efficiently - being smart with water. Thousands of litres of water can be saved by using water-efficient products and making simple changes to water use behaviours.

Businesses will be contacted in person by Council's Water team and invited to participate.
