About Us - Tweed Laboratory Centre

Tweed Shire Council established Tweed Laboratory Centre (TLC) in 1987.

Its primary focus was to perform water quality testing and effluent/process control. Over the years this has developed into offering not only our own Council this service but also many others, including Consultants, Universities and the general public.

As a business unit within Council we are self funding and in fact make a significant return back to Council from our profits.

This development has lead to a significant increase in income, to now be a multi-million dollar operation. We believe that this has been possible through our corporate philosophy, primarily:

  1. Commitment to Quality
  2. Customer First
  3. Teamwork
  4. Integrity of Work

The Team

Since 1987, TLC has grown from 1 staff member to 15 staff members consisting of professional scientists, technicians, administration and ancillary staff.

Diversity

TLC now offers a diversity of service probably never envisaged at its inception. This includes ICP-OES, Ion Chromatography, Atomic Absorption, Flow Injection and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry.

NATA Accreditation

NATA Logo

TLC is a National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited Laboratory

The need to offer quality services means we have to satisfy a variety of customer and licensing body requirements, this meant becoming NATA accredited.

Tweed embarked on obtaining accreditation in 1995, over the next 11 years we have not only obtained accreditation to satisfy our Council’s needs but also expanded this by developing services required by our other clients.

Accreditation means we utilise a quality system in our normal day-to-day operations conforming to both ISO9002 and ISO17025, and this quality system gives the assurance that all of our work satisfies the needs of all regulatory agencies throughout the world.
