Transport

Leaving the car at home is good for you and the planet. It also helps to reduce traffic congestion, which benefits other road users.

With the cost of petrol rising, now is the time to rethink your travel choices.

Use the information below for help with finding a carpool or planning your cycling or public transport route.

Join a Carpool

Share your jouney and Save!

Northern Rivers Carpool is a free, online service for anyone who wants to save money, meet new people and reduce their carbon footprint while travelling to work or study.

It takes two minutes to join the network and then NR Carpool will search its database and match you with other people travelling in the same direction.

Join today and travel smart, because it's how you get there that counts.

NR Carpool is an initiative of Northern Rivers Council’s from Clarence to the Tweed.

For more information or to become a member go to www.nrcarpool.org.

Catch the Bus

There are more than 280 daily bus services to shopping centres, clubs, pools, hospitals, colleges and other local destinations.

A new type of public transport ticket, the Regional Excursion Daily (RED) ticket, can now be purchased to assist elderly persons with the cost of transport. This ticket is called the Regional Excursion Daily (RED) ticket. This $2.50 all day ticket will be sold by the bus driver when passengers present a valid Pensioner Concession card, a NSW Seniors card or a War Widower/s card. As the card gives entitlement to travel on more than one service within the network service area during the day on which it is purchased, and allows multiple trips to be taken on buses in the service network in the one day, drivers will need to permit people holding a RED ticket to board without further charge.

The RED ticket is available on all scheduled commercial local bus services, but not on local school services, Countrylink bus services or interstate coach services. Detailed regional transport service information is also available from the Transport Information Pages in the Murwillumbah Telephone Directory at pages 8-9.

Please click on Going Places - Northern Rivers Social Development Council to find transport information for the area.

Please click on Surfside Busline Services to view information specific to Surfside Buslines.

The Rydon transport program is part of the Tweed Byron Ballina Community Transport service. Rydon is for groups of 5 or more young people aged 12-24 who need help with transport in the Murwillumbah District. For more information please visit the Rydon Website.

To view information regarding all bus operators and route numbers as well as a colour-coded 'map' that shows each bus service and how they inter-connect, interchanges and taxi services, please view the following document.
