Sustainability Program
Tweed Shire Council first established its Sustainability Program in 1997. It was created in response to recommendations from the Rio Earth Summit which identified the need for local solutions to meet the multi-faceted challenge of environmental protection, social equity and economic resilience. Previously known as the Sustaining the Tweed Program, Council’s response to sustainability has evolved over the past decade to meet legislative requirements under the NSW Local Government Act and more recently the Integrated Planning and Reporting requirements.
Today, Council’s Sustainability and Climate Change Program is delivered through the Natural Resource Management (NRM) Unit and compliments the other NRM Program areas of Biodiversity, Waterways, Coastline Management and Sustainable Agriculture.
