Rates Incentive
Tweed Shire Council runs a rates incentive program to encourage lump sum payment of rates. Up until 2009 the prizes ranged from new cars to overseas holidays. In 2009 Council introduced a green option with winners able to select from either a holiday or energy and water efficient home make-over. In 2010 the popularity of home make-over saw it become the sole prize option.
The three lucky households are visited by a Council staff member who discusses options for reducing energy and water consumption.
Previous winners have received items such as:
- Water and energy efficient white-goods
- Solar power
- Solar hot water
- Window tinting
- Outdoor blinds
