Lower income households in NSW can get assistance to cut their electricity bills, by taking advantage of the State Government's Home Power Savings Program.
The $63 million Home Power Savings Program offers a free service to eligible households across NSW, with a goal to help them reduce their power consumption by at least 20 per cent.
Tweed Shire Council is partnering with the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage to promote the scheme, to encourage Tweed Shire households to get involved.
Participating households receive a free In-home Power Assessment, a Power Savings Kit worth up to $200 and a personalised Power Savings Action Plan.
The Power Saving Kits comprise:
- A stand-by saver power board
- Four energy-efficient light bulbs
- A low-flow showerhead
- A shower timer
- A tap aerator
- Draught-proof strips for around doors
- Door snakes
Householders are eligible for the program if they live in NSW and:
- hold a Centrelink Pensioner, Concession or Low Income Health Care card; or
- have a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner or Repatriation Health (Gold or White) card; or
- rent government or community housing; or
- have a hardship assistance plan with their energy retailer.
The program has already provided assistance to more than 3,800 households throughout Tweed Shire. Now the State Government is working with local councils to encourage more participants. Another 3,500 local households may also be eligible.
Across the state, more than 100,000 households throughout NSW have participated so far.
Thirty per cent of Tweed Shire's 40,000 households are low-income earners. The Home Power Savings Program provides an excellent opportunity for Tweed residents to cut their electricity consumption and costs.
