Council Operations

Tweed Shire Council is committed to reducing the environmental footprint of its operations.

This commitment is delivered, in part, by Council's Environmental Management System (EMS) which sets a framework for identifying, prioritising and managing environmental risks in the workplace.

The EMS is also a cornerstone of Council's own greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, which include:

  • Actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the vehicle fleet;
  • Actions to improve energy and water efficiency of infrastructure; and
  • Actions to improve green procurement and waste avoidance throughout the organisation.

The over-arching principle of Council's environmental commitment is continual improvement and an acknowledgment that things can always be done better regardless of past performance.

Click on the index headings to the left for more detail on actions to reduce the environmental footprint of Council's day-to-day activities.
