Tweed Solar Community
The Tweed Shire Solar Community Program ran from August 2010 to June 2011. It was created in response to considerable community interest around solar power, rising electricity costs and electricity related greenhouse gas emissions.
Project methodology:
- Council tender process to identify a solar installer as the project partner
- Local advertising to promote the solar packages
- 10 months of solar installs
Project outcomes included:
- 400+ Tweed property owners installing grid interactive solar photovoltaic systems
- Council receiving 20 free 2 kilowatt systems for install on community facilities
- Reduced electricity bills / carbon footprint of 20 community facilities
- Increased community / council awareness around the benefits of going solar
