To meet the ongoing needs of the Tweed community, now and into the foreseeable future, Council actively operates three sites - Tweed Lawn Cemetery, Murwillumbah Lawn Cemetery and Tweed Valley Cemetery, incorporating the Tweed Valley Crematorium and Memorial Gardens. All three offer peaceful and stunning settings, quality and cost effective services, respectful, discreet and professional service by staff.

Murwillumbah Lawn and Tweed Lawn cemeteries have been reopened for new allotments and have regular ‘re-openings’. They have reserved burial sites and permanent locations for ashes. A variety of new permanent sites for ashes are being developed at the Tweed Heads, Murwillumbah and Tweed Valley Cemeteries, to complement the crematorium and other cemetery services offered by Council.

Tweed Valley Cemetery - 813-871 Eviron Road, Eviron

Tweed Valley Cemetery at Eviron is the main operating cemetery for Tweed Shire. It includes a modern onsite crematorium and an historic, non-denominational chapel which is available for hire and is perfect for funeral services, wakes and other gatherings of family and friends. The chapel offers seating for up to 90 people, audio-visual equipment, and kitchen facilities for catering. Allotments are available for burials and reservations. This cemetery is a lawn cemetery only and does not include monumental sites. Lawn burial sites extend up the cemetery’s green hills, bounded by flowering shrubs. All of these services, in addition to a variety of burial and ash interment alternatives, mean the Tweed Valley Lawn Cemetery can offer everything for family and friends to farewell, celebrate and remember loved ones in a one convenient and highly picturesque location. Holding the service, burial and other gatherings in one location offers a more relaxed and less stressful day for those left behind.

The cemetery's stunning grounds offer many options for interment, including:

  • an expanded selection of lawn burial sites

  • rainforest walk memorial sites

  • family tree or individual tree memorial sites

There are also several options for permanent and picturesque locations for ashes:

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a burial site cost?
Fees for burials vary according to the chosen cemetery and the type of burial.
How much does an ash interment site cost?
The cost of ash interments varies according to the cemetery chosen and the site you wish to reserve.
Can I reserve a burial site for future use?
Yes, you will need to fill out an Application For Burial Reservation form and pay the minimum of the first burial fee to reserve the site. Application forms are available on Council's website. Contact the Cemetery Administrator (phone (02) 6670 2435 or email cemeteries@tweed.nsw.gov.au) to choose a site.
Can I leave trinkets on a plaque or gravesite?
No.  Council has a policy not to allow trinkets to be left on plaques and gravesite, in order to maintain a consistent and attractive site for all visitors.  In the past, trinkets have dominated individual sites and impacted upon adjacent sites. They can also deteriorate and look untidy over time.
Council's Cemeteries Policy states:
You are not allowed to leave vases, glass jars, ceramic containers, statues, metal containers etc in the cemetery. For workplace health and safety reasons, such items will be removed without notice.  Families may supply their own vases, provided they are made of non-breakable material such as plastic, copper or stainless steel and have a spike on the base to stop them tipping over.
Artificial Flowers are NOT permitted and will be removed without notice.
How do I book a burial?
A funeral director can help you book a burial. A burial permit is necessary for a burial at one of Council's cemeteries and these permits must be arranged by a funeral director.
