Tweed Valley Way Safety Barrier
Tweed Shire Council is constructing a barrier along Tweed Valley Way to improve road safety on one of the Tweed’s accident hotspots.
Council has received $2 million in funding from the Federal Government’s Nation Building Black Spot program to address road safety on Tweed Valley Way and proposes to construct a wire rope barrier from Riverside Drive to Cudgen Road.
From July 2004 to June 2008, there have been 16 recorded vehicle crashes along this section of Tweed Valley Way, including 13 which have caused death or injury. A number of these serious accidents have involved vehicles crossing onto the wrong side of the road.
Wire rope barriers are used extensively by the Roads and Traffic Authority NSW and reduce the incidence of head-on crashes by up to 90%, preventing vehicles from crossing onto the wrong side of the road.
Council is finalising the design and is scheduled to start constructing the barrier before the end of this year.
