Paying Your Rates and Charges
Tweed Shire Council rates are payable in full or by quarterly instalment. A range of payment options are available and convenient periodic payments can also be arranged.
Tweed Shire Council’s water consumption charges are issued twice a year and are a separate account.

Periodic Payments
Rates and charges may be paid outside the due dates subject to an agreement being reached between Tweed Shire Council and the ratepayer.
For Your Convenience
You can pay your account by the following methods:
Payment through Australia Post:
Rates, Water and Sundry Debtors can be paid at any branch of Australia Post by producing the Notice when making payment. Australia Post will issue a receipt and return it to you with your notice.
Direct Debit:
This allows you to make your payments direct from your nominated account within Australia at no cost to you.
It is imperative that you check with your Financial Institution that the account nominated is able to be accessed, as some types of accounts can not be used for Direct Debiting. (No Credit Card Accounts)
When the rate payment is due either by fortnightly, monthly, quarterly or yearly arrangements, Council will automatically debit your account with the amount owing. Notification of the amount due will still be issued to you by Council.
In order to use this system please complete the DDR authority. The form is also available at Council’s Murwillumbah or Tweed Heads Office.
Strict control over the system is maintained by your bank and only your instructions can be acted upon. If you wish to amend or cancel your instruction you must do so in writing to Council or complete a Direct Debit Cancellation/Alteration form.
Payment by Mail:
All cheques and money orders should be made payable to Tweed Shire Council. Do not send cash through the mail.
Council will not be responsible for any delay in receipt of payments through the mailing system.
If a receipt is required, please sign in the space provided on the rates notice and forward it with payment.
Personal Payment to the Council:
Rates may be paid at either the Murwillumbah or Tweed Heads Civic Centres. Please present the account intact to the cashier and a receipt will be issued.
Payment by Phone:
Council has entered into an agreement with Australia Post for the acceptance of Rates, Water & Debtors accounts by telephone. These accounts may be paid by phone through Australia Post using Visa, MasterCard or Visa Debit Card. No other cards will be accepted. The contact number and details required appear on the rates notice. Any queries in relation to matter other than the making of the payment must be made to Council. A surcharge will apply to all credit card payment.
Internet Payment Facility:
You can pay your Rate, Water or Debtor’s account via the Australia Post Website www.postbillpay.com.au using Visa, MasterCard or Visa Debit Card. A surcharge will apply to all credit card payments.
Bpay:
Phone or internet, Bpay from credit card accounts is not available.
