DRAFT Tweed Local Environmental Plan 2010 and
DRAFT Tweed City Centre Local Environmental Plan 2009

In 2006, Council’s Planning Reform Unit commenced working toward the implementation of the State Government’s planning reforms initiative for the standardisation of local environmental plans across NSW. Following extensive negotiation with the Department of Planning, Council has now been granted authority to publicly exhibit the Draft Tweed Local Environmental Plan 2010 and Draft Tweed City Centre Local Environmental Plan 2009.

Exhibition - 27 January 2010 to 30 April 2010

The exhibition of the Draft Tweed LEP 2010 and the Draft Tweed City Centre LEP 2009 is to take place between 27th January 2010 and 30 April 2010. This is the opportunity for residents and interest groups to review the Draft plans and make formal comment for the consideration of Council. Council’s Planning Reform Unit aim to assist residents, community groups and interested parties in accessing the relevant information and understanding what the LEP means to them.

As a result, information on the Draft Tweed and City Centre LEP can be accessed in the following ways:

  • Website.
  • DVD.
  • Static Displays.
  • Information Sessions.

How to Lodge a Submission

We strongly recommend all community members and groups review the LEP in relation to their particular property or area of interest. This is the appropriate opportunity to check how the LEP relates to your land and tell us what you think, particularly if you are of the opinion that an anomaly has arisen.

Submissions regarding either Draft LEP should be made in writing to Council and received before the closing of the submission period on the 30th April 2010.

For individuals lodging a submission, there should be a clear indication of the relevant property details that the submission relates to, including where possible, the street address and title (Lot and DP) details. It should also clearly articulate specific aspects of the LEP that are being addressed within the content of the submission.

For community groups lodging submissions on specific themes or geographic areas we encourage you to clearly articulate which elements of the plan you endorse or are not in favour of and why.

DRAFT Tweed Local Environmental Plan 2010

The Draft Shirewide LEP 2010 is being prepared in two stages with the current Stage 1 consisting of a rollover of the existing provisions of Tweed LEP 2000 into the State Government’s standard LEP template; ‘Standard Instrument Order 2006.’ Some additional amendments incorporating recommendations of Council adopted policies, such as, the Murwillumbah Locality Plan, and the Tweed Vegetation Management Strategy 2004, have also been included.

We encourage you to take the time to review the draft LEP and how it relates to your property. To assist in finding the relevant information, we recommend you use the accompanying LEP ‘User Guide’ which we have prepared to help explain the LEP preparation process and how to access information.

Relevant Development Control Plan Documents

DRAFT Tweed City Centre Local Environmental Plan 2009

Tweed Shire Council in collaboration with the Department of Planning’s City Centre Taskforce has prepared a new LEP for Tweed City Centre, which is also supported by a new Development Control Plan and Vision Document.

The 3 planning documents work in coordination to assist in the revitalisation of the Tweed City Centre as the capital of the Far North Coast Region by targetting the creation of 3,000 new jobs and 7,000 new residents by 2035.
