Tweed Council has commenced an exciting and important project with the aims of becoming a leader in the use of “ePlanning” practices and providing its residents and businesses with more efficient and customer-focused development assessment processes.
“ePlanning” is all about utilising web based systems and electronic functions to replace many of the manual, paper-based actions we currently use for development assessment, including the lodgement, notification, internal and external referral of information and determination of development applications.
There are growing pressures on local councils to utilise the technology currently available for on-line lodgement and determination of development applications.
The full implementation of “ePlanning” will involve a major learning curve and cultural change for both Council staff, local businesses and citizens, and will take several years to complete.
Council is therefore introducing “ePlanning” in a gradual fashion, commencing with the initial launch of improved web site information in June 2009, and the more recent launch of the following services in August 2009:
DA Tracking
The DA Tracking tool contains a tracking system representing key milestones in the Development Application process. It is not intended to provide a detailed history, but a summary of the stages that the application has gone through. The tool contains information such as:
- Date of lodgement at Council
- Name of applicant and property owner
- Assessing officer
- Electronic copies of all application documents, including all forms, Statement of Environmental Effects, specialist reports and plans
- Other related applications
- Confirmation of notification/advertising procedures
- Council’s determination (approval/refusal/withdrawn)
This service applies to all development applications lodged since 1 July 2009.
