Tweed Heads Library Upgrade

Selected library services at Tweed Heads will remain closed to the public on Thursday 28 September 2017, while major electrical works are completed for the new library expansion. The works were scheduled to be completed for Monday 25 September to Wednesday 27 September but will take one day longer than expected.

Members of the community will be unable to browse the Tweed Heads library collection during these works, but access to the computer and reading room will continue to be available.

A new electricity switchboard is being installed, as construction of the expanded library building nears completion.

The work involves the entire building occupied by the new library, the Tweed auditorium, and the temporary library site that has been operating during the expansion project.

Council apologises for the interruption but Council and Richmond Tweed Regional Library are working to ensure as many services as possible continue to be available.

The replacement of the switchboard is an important milestone as we work towards having the new library open to the public in December.

There will be a further interruption to Tweed Heads library services in November when the collection is moved from the temporary sites back into the new expanded building.

Dates of this closure and measures to assist library users will be confirmed in coming weeks.

Tweed Heads Library is being expanded in 2017 to create a bigger, more versatile and user-friendly community facility, and is set to re-open to the public in December 2017.

The project will increase the library’s floor space from 619 square metres to 1054 square metres, and improved design will allow greater flexibility in how the building is used, including new areas to accommodate programs and user groups.

The improvements will include a new self-checkout system which will ensure Tweed Heads Library continues to meet the needs of a growing community with increasingly sophisticated needs, to become even more of a community hub as a valuable public resource and a social space.

Once construction works are completed, it will take a few weeks to install shelving and return the collection from the library's temporary sites. In the meantime, services will continue to be available from the two temporary sites at the Tweed Heads Civic and Cultural Centre and Community Centre at Tweed Heads South.
