The spotlight is well and truly shining on events as a valuable way to enrich our sense of place and create economic, social, cultural and environmental benefits. The Tweed is a dynamic and diverse community with many exciting festivals and special events held each year. Council wants to support, develop and attract events that are fitting to the character and aspirations of the region and in doing so, become one of Australia's most sought after locations of innovative, beneficial and integrated boutique events.

Events Strategy

Luminair Consulting (Luminair) was engaged in early 2015 to assist Council with the creation of a new multi-year Events Strategy, in accordance with Direction 37 of the Tweed Shire Economic Development Strategy. The Tweed Shire Events Strategy 2016-2020 (adopted at Council's meeting 18 February 2016) aims to provide a framework to assist the community and Council to develop and support festivals and events in the Tweed. The strategy supports existing events, encourages development and sets the framework for attracting desirable events for strategic benefit.

Draft Events Sponsorship Policy (formerly Festivals and Events Policy)

On 19 May 2016, Council resolved to publicly exhibit the Draft Events Sponsorship Policy for a period of 28 days, commencing Friday 20 May 2016, with receipt of submissions accepted for 42 days from the commencement date of exhibition.

The process of providing both financial assistance and in kind support to event organisers has been reviewed in accordance with the actions outlined in the Tweed Shire Events Strategy 2016-2020, adopted by Council on 18 February 2016.

This review resulted in the creation of the Draft Events Sponsorship Policy which provides a framework for Council to offer financial assistance to event organisers to develop, host and grow festivals and events in the Tweed Shire. This Policy will replace the Festivals and Events Policy, Version 1.1.

Event Workshops

Community Events Workshops are an initiative of the Events Strategy 2011-2016 and are held quarterly. They aim to deliver professional development training for community event organisers in the Tweed Shire and are free to attend. All workshops are advertised in the Tweed Link. The Workshops are an opportunity to find out about how Council can assist you with your event and feature guest speakers and practical sessions on how to organise different aspects of your event. It is also a great opportunity to meet and network with other event organisers in the Tweed. The workshops are usually held between 10.30am and noon on a Tuesday or Wednesday in Murwillumbah or Tweed Heads.
