Wastewise Schools - Litter Free Lunch

A Litter Free Lunch is one that contains no throw-away packaging. Everything in it can either be re-used, composted or recycled. Therefore food is brought in re-usable containers rather than disposable plastic wrap. Drinks are brought in re-fillable plastic bottles and no pre-packackaged foods are brought to school. The idea is to buy fresh or buy in bulk so you can reduce the amount of waste you produce.

On average, each Australian sends approximately 900kg of waste to landfill each year. Through minimising the waste that is brought to school, we are encouraging students to be waste conscious and minimise litter around the school. The program also helps to decrease waste disposal costs for the school and encourages healthy eating habits.

Register your Tweed school for a Litter Free lunch and go into the running to win a prize for your efforts. To register, fax your completed details from the Litter Free Lunch Registration Form (254kB) to (02) 6670 2557 or email them to education@tweed.nsw.gov.au.

Phone or email Council’s Environmental Education Officer for your Litter Free Lunch kit, which details how to run the Litter Free Lunch, a waste audit, includes waste audit sheets, a sample letter to parents and sample certificate for students.
