Stage One of the drainage upgrade project was completed in June 2006 and included the installation of a pipeline along Tumbulgum Road, Wharf Street, Commercial Road and Proudfoots Lane.

This stage of the Murwillumbah drainage project includes the extension of the stormwater pipeline along Murwillumbah Street as far as Queen Street and up the first part of Queen Street.

The project will:

  • Deliver essential upgrades to storm water drainage in the CBD
  • Relocate the drainage system from private property onto Council owned roads
  • Allow future access and maintenance of the system
  • Reduce odour problems in the CBD due to stagnant water
