Cemetery Information
Tweed Shire Council manages 11 cemeteries ranging from the large regional facility, Tweed Valley Cemetery located at Eviron, to small village cemeteries.
The active cemeteries are located at Eviron, Murwillumbah, Tweed Heads and Tyalgum.
There are approximately 110 burials per year at Tweed Valley Cemetery, 30 at Murwillumbah Cemetery and 40 at Tweed Heads and occasionally at Tyalgum.
Lawn cemeteries are located at Tweed Heads Lawn Cemetery, Sunshine Avenue Tweed Heads South, Tweed Valley Cemetery, Eviron Road Eviron and Murwillumbah Lawn Cemetery, Tree Street Murwillumbah.
Monumental cemeteries are located at Florence Street Tweed Heads, Sunshine Avenue Tweed Heads South, Kyogle Road Bray Park, corner of Tree Street and Byangum Road Murwillumbah and Swifts Road Tyalgum.
Access to Cemeteries
Tweed Valley Cemetery
Access to the intended parking area of the cemetery is available from 7:00am to dusk. Pedestrian
access is however available at all times.
All other Cemeteries
Access is available at all times.
Availability of Allotments
Availability of burial allotments and allotments for reservations and ashes interment sites are as follows:
Tweed Valley Cemetery - Eviron Road, Eviron
Allotments are available for burials and reservations. This cemetery is a lawn cemetery only - monumental work is not permitted.
There are several ashes interment sites to choose from including the new family tree memorials.
Tyalgum General Cemetery- Swifts Road, Tyalgum
A Limited number of Interments are available for burials and reservations.
Tweed Heads Central - Florence Street, Tweed Heads
This cemetery is closed. No further burials are permitted in this cemetery.
Chinderah Cemetery - Chinderah Road, Chinderah
This cemetery is closed. No further burials are permitted in this cemetery.
Fingal South Sea Islander General Cemetery - Letitia Road, Fingal
This cemetery is closed. No further burials are permitted in this cemetery.
Murwillumbah Catholic Cemetery - Kyogle Road, Bray Park
This cemetery is closed. Only those with an existing Right of Burial or proof of reservation are to be interred in this cemetery.
Murwillumbah Lawn Cemetery - Tree Street, Murwillumbah
Allotments are available for burials and reservations. This cemetery is a lawn cemetery only - monumental work is not permitted.
Ashes interment sites are also available at this cemetery.
Murwillumbah General Cemetery - Byangum Road, Murwillumbah
This cemetery is closed. Only those with an existing Right of Burial or proof of reservation are to be interred in this cemetery.
Tweed Heads Lawn Cemetery - Sunshine Avenue, Tweed Heads South
Limited number of allotments are available for burials and reservations.
Tweed Heads General Cemetery - Sunshine Avenue, Tweed Heads South
Only those with an existing Right of Burial or proof of reservation are to be interred in this cemetery.
Tumbulgum Cemetery - Dulguigan Road, North Tumbulgum
This cemetery is a historical cemetery and is closed. Burials are not permitted.
Original Murwillumbah Cemetery - Banner Street, Murwillumbah
This cemetery has been converted to a memorial park and burials are not permitted.
