Over the last few years Council has invested considerable time, energy and resources into developing a number of plans across a wide range of Council’s traditional programs:

These plans were developed in close consultation with the community.

In a broad sense there has been:

  • Over 100 consultations with community organisations
  • Over 60 public meetings
  • 7 reference or steering committees established
  • 13 workshops/forums
  • 7 mail outs, including a number of special editions of the Tweed Link
  • An independent telephone survey
  • 13 brochures and CDs prepared
While much of the consultation was specific to particular programs (eg sporting facilities or museums) a general Community Perceptions Survey was undertaken in February 2004 in conjunction with Tweed Futures.

It identified the Community's highest priorities as:

  • Balancing population growth
  • Controlling urban development
  • Protecting, conserving and maintaining the landscape
  • Road upgrading and maintenance
  • Employment creation
Many of the projects and actions embodied as outcomes of these plans have not been implemented because funds have not been available.
